Mammoth 636-mile challenge for Souper Seven!
19 August 2024
Seven ‘souper’ colleagues from Grimsby Soups and Sauces are walking, running or cycling more than 600 miles combined throughout August to raise money for St Andrew's Hospice as part of their divisional Learning and Development programme, Recipe for Success.
They have set themselves the challenge of travelling 91 miles each and together they are aiming to walk, run or cycle 636 miles, which is equal to the distance between the Grimsby site and our 2 Sisters factory in Coupar Angus.
Challenge participant, Kate Tominey, said: "We chose St Andrew's Hospice as our charity as they don’t receive much funding and they rely entirely on donations.
"The charity gives so much support to people receiving palliative care. Some of our colleagues at Grimsby have had family members or close friends in the hospice at some point.
Speaking about the challenge itself, Kate said: "It's going really well, we've already completed nearly 200 miles, but we're all finding it challenging. Our team has a mixture of colleagues who are into their fitness and others who previously didn’t do any physical exercise so it's really challenging for them.
“On average we’re completing around four miles a day, it's a lot, especially when you work full-time. You question 'When am I going to find the time?’ then you remember it's all to raise money for a great cause."
