Sustainable Palm Oil

Updated March 2020

Palm oil is an important raw material for the food industry both because of its low level of saturated fat, and also because it supports critical economic development in emerging markets. However, large scale cultivation of palm plantations can create sustainability issues through deforestation, release of carbon dioxide from peat land, lack of engagement with indigenous people and labour ethics problems.

In line with our Environmental Policy and Sustainability Plan commitment to increase responsible sourcing, 2 Sisters Food Group is a member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). As such since 2013 100% of the bulk palm oil we use is RSPO certified and we are committed to continuing this sourcing policy.

While growing both organically and through acquisition, we continue to make good progress towards our targets for palm oil. These targets are that all palm-oil and palm-oil derivatives used in 2 Sisters’ products have either Segregated or Mass Balanced certification from certified sources and we are committed to gaining RSPO certification for all our sites using palm oil or palm oil derivatives.

We will maintain our membership of RSPO and report progress for the company’s branded products through the RSPO reporting system. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to support our retailer brands and products by meeting their goals for certified palm oil and ensuring we report progress on their brands directly to them.
