Antibiotics

The Boparan Group and our supply chain partners all recognise there is a risk that antibiotic use in animal agriculture contributes to the emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria, which can spread to humans and make standard treatment of infectious diseases ineffective.

We do not use antibiotics prophylactically; where the entire herd or flock is treated as a means of disease prevention. In line with The World Health Organisation, and as a member of the Food Industry Initiative on Antimicrobials (FIIA), we have stopped the use of all antibiotics classed as critically important to humans, which include third and fourth generations cephalosporins & fluoroquinolones.

If it is absolutely necessary to use antibiotics for the treatment of an injury or health reasons, this will be done responsibly making sure we continue to safeguard both human and animal health and any antibiotics will be fully licensed and used under the supervision of a registered vet.

All protein suppliers are required to comply with all relevant UK & EU animal welfare and antibiotic management legislation and adhere to their relevant farm schemes, such as IKB, Red Tractor, QS, Bord Bia, RSPCA Assured and organic specifications.

Via the British Poultry Council (BPC Antibiotic Report) & the European Central Registration Antibiotic (CRA) System (via Avined), 100% of our UK, Dutch & Polish operations report on the use of antibiotics to customers including the type, amount and the reason for use in line with industry best practice standards of the Responsible Use of Medicines in Agriculture (RUMA) body. We adhere to this with the aim of increasing transparency and understanding antibiotic use in the supply chain with continued focus on reduction of our antibiotic usage.

Growth Promoters

The Boparan Group do not allow the use of growth promoters. In line with UK & EU legislation, there is no use of antibiotic growth promoters, anabolic agents, including growth-promoting hormonal products or similar products.
